Hey Everyone - I should have put this in my last post, but you all are more than welcome to swing by and visit with Owen when ever you'd like, just give us a call first.

Things are going really well, Owen has been sleeping about 3+ hours at a time through the night which has been great for us to catch up on our sleep. We've been taking it pretty easy the past few days.

We're Home!

Sorry for not posting sooner, but we've been REALLY busy, go figure. We came home yesterday afternoon, Owen finally got to see his new home, we think he likes it. Karan has offered to help us and stay with us for a few days, which is AWESOME! Lori and Owen rode home with Karan and I went to get Lucy from the vet where she's been boarded since Friday. It was really nice to have everyone home, finally. Lucy did really well with Owen, we weren't quite sure how she'd react, so we medicated her a bit, she was pretty docile yesterday. Everyone is doing really well, it's so nice to have our family home. Owen slept really well last night, he woke up every couple of hours, but we got some solid sleep in between feedings & changings.

Today we're going to make a trip out and about to Target to pick up a few things, it'll be nice to get out of the house for a little bit. I've gotten a little behind on my yard work, so I think I'm gonna take care of that some time today.

Owen did MUCH better last night. He slept for almost an hour and a half between feedings. We did let the nurses take him to the nursery for a few of hours. He and Lori are taking a little nap right now and I'm about to jump in the shower. I think we're going to take it easy today and let Lori and Owen rest up, they've had a really busy past few days. The doctors indicated that we'd more than likely go home tomorrow (or Wednesday at the latest). Once we get settled we'd like for Owen to meet everyone.

Thank you all so much for your prayers, wonderful support and friendship throughout this, we are truly blessed to have Owen and you as a part of our extended family.

Owen had some visitors today...

Sorry for not posting sooner, we've had a busy day. Owen had a lot of guests today, Lori's mother, Rob & Heather, Dan & Kristi and Emily. He has recovered well from his circumcision, he's just a little fussy. We tried to get him to eat, but he wasn't interested so finally I was able to give him 15mL of formula from a bottle. When it was quiet time everyone had to go, I cuddled with Owen for the first hour or so and Lori has him now. We're gonna put him in his little crib and take a nap.

Owen is a very happy little baby right now. I just took a shower and Owen's been snuggled up with Lori. We didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Owen woke up pretty much every hour so we're starting to get a better understanding of his schedule. He had a difficult time feeding but finally last night he did eat and then a couple of times through the night. He's slept pretty well this morning but that's about to change. The doctor just took him for his circumcision and he should be back in about 45 minutes. We apologized to him in advance, poor little guy.

For anyone interested in visiting, today might be best for everyone. He's going to be a little grumpy from the snip snip, but other than that he's excited about meeting everyone. The visitation hours are pretty open with the exception of 2-4 PM, that's quiet time.

Owen got his first bath at about 8:30 PM this evening. He didn't seem to like the bath all that much, but it was time.

It is with great pleasure and honor that I announce to you, Owen Joseph Whitcomb is here! The doctors were having a difficult time maintaining his heartbeat, so they took Lori to the OR to preform a C-Section. Everything went perfect and at 12:15 PM today (5/17) Owen was born! He weighed 6lbs 3oz (coincidence, I weighed 6lbs 3oz) and he measured 19.75" long.

We spent a little time in the recovery room and then at 2:30 PM they took us to the family room where he'll stay with us for the next few days. I haven't heard for sure, but the recovery time for a C-Section is a little more, so I think we'll be here until at least Monday or so...

Water Broke, Epidural In!

The doctor broke Lori's water earlier this morning. About 30 minutes ago Lori got the epidural, that was a lot less painful than she thought... Little Owen's heart rate wasn't quite where they wanted it, so they put her on oxygen. Things are progressing and everything is looking good.

I just got back from the cafe where I had some breakfast. To start things off right, I had three pieces of bacon, eggs, biscuit & gravy and some coffee. I feel much better, I think Lori is feeling better too b/c she's finally getting some sleep.

Lori and I just got a shower (no, not together) and we're both feeling a lot better. They just started the poticin drip along with the IV solution. She also got some pain meds so she's going to take a nap. Karan should be here around 7:00 and I'm going to get some breakfast.

Good Morning! Happy "Birth" Day Owen

Good Morning Everyone! I slept GREAT last night, Lori didn't sleep much at all (that's why I'm up now). I guess we went to bed about 10:30 last night, I watched TV to go to sleep and they gave Lori an Ambien. The nurses are coming in about every hour and checking on Lori and Owen. Even with the Ambien, Lori only got a couple of hours worth of sleep. The contractions are about 2-4 minutes apart, I can see it on the screen (Lori lets me know too). They're going to be here around 5:30 - 6:00 so Lori can take a shower and they'll start the pitocin at 7:00 AM which will start things moving (no pun intended).

The doctor came by around 7:00 PM this evening and gave Lori some medicine. Her contractions are about 5-6 minutes apart. She said that they would start to induce her at 7:00 AM tomorrow morning and then Owen should be on his way. Whit came by and we went to O'Charley's across the street for dinner. We brought Lori and Karan some food back and now we're watching America's Funniest Videos. I don't think much more is going to happen tonight, but if it does, I'll post an update.

What a day... Lori and I went into the doctors this morning for a routine appointment and we found out that Owen will be on his way soon... Her amniotic fluid was a little low and after the non-stress test, the doctor examined her and decided to admit Lori and induce her tomorrow.

Karan (Lori's mother) is here with us. So far so good... Lori had Quiznos for lunch (I just finished the leftovers). I think I'm going to have pizza for dinner, there is a really good place around the corner, Romalleo's I think is the name...

The Last Stretch...

Just in case you didn't see it on the left, we've got 17 days left until Owen Joseph Whitcomb has his birthday. I think we're as ready for him as we can be. The nursery has been pretty much ready since Christmas and we've got more onsies then I think one person should have, but I've been told they go through those things pretty quick. We got a Diaper Genie last weekend, so we've got a place for the stinky ones...

We've taken a few classes to help us prepare for our little guy. Last month we took the Prepared Childbirth Class at Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast in Concord (where we will be having Owen). Instead of trying to commit to four or five weekday classes, we opted for the all day Saturday session. It was very informative and I'm glad we took it. We also got a tour of the L&D areas as well as the birthing rooms. We also took a Healthy Beginnings for Newborns this week and learned a lot of important things, including infant CPR. This weekend Walker and I are going to the Bootcamp for Daddys, this should be interesting...

We're scheduled to have the 3D Ultrasound on Friday 3/7. We're waiting to see him before we commit to a name. So far we're considering Owen Joseph Whitcomb, but we'll know for sure after the 3D Ultrasound. Nursery Update

We went to Babies R Us last Saturday, to look at the things we registered for online. We realized that some of the things, OK, a lot of the things we registered for were not carried at most stores. Whoops. Well, we decided to update our registry with the items more commonly carried at the retail stores. The crib set we had originally picked was not available, so we found another one we liked and it was on sale, more than 50% off. It's really cute, lots of bears and stuff. The nursery is coming together quite well. We picked out this really cool (and small) fan/light, so I installed that, including the wiring on Saturday. Enjoy the pictures of the update nursery.

Hey Everyone! Lori and I went to the doctors this morning and we found out that we're going to have a little boy. He was mooning us for most of the exam, but then the nurse said "It's a boy and he's showing off". That's my boy!

After the doctor's appointment, I went to get the nursery furniture that was in, the crib, matteress and changing table. On the way home I picked up a JUMBO pizza at Tony's. When I got home, we ate and then I put all of the furniture together. We're both really excited about how the nursery is coming together. Check out all of the pictures here

142 BPM!

We went to the doctor this afternoon and got to hear the heartbeat again, this time 142 beats per minute. Everything else looked good and we're still on target for our Jan 2nd date to find out if we're having a boy or girl.

Baby Furniture

We ordered the nursery furniture tonight, it should be here before Christmas. We got a crib (and a mattress), changing table and four drawer dresser all in cherry.

I decided to pick up some tools and transition the office into the nursery. Right now we still have the futon, but as soon as the furniture arrives I'll take a few more pictures and post them. I started by painting the top 2/3 of the wall a neutral tan color, then installed chair railing and painted the bottom 1/3 trim white. I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

Upcoming Appointments...

This is just a quick update for our upcoming appointments. Wednesday 12/19 is Lori’s next scheduled appointment. Then on Wednesday 1/2 we go in for the next ultrasound and we’ll find out if we’re having a boy or girl! I’ve update the boy/girl survey to go through 1/1, good luck!

160 BPM!

Hi Everyone!

Today was very exciting for Lori and I because we got to hear our Baby's heartbeat for the first time. Wow, that little heart was racing at over 160 BPM (that's Beats Per Minute in case you didn't know that acronym). It turns out that 160 BPM is normal, don't worry, Lori doesn't have a hummingbird growing inside her, what a relief!

We’re going back next week for an Ultra Screen which is a more detailed ultra sound.

It's Official! Lori and I are going to have a baby!

We are both VERY excited about our new addition to our family. Needless to say, our parents are pretty excited too. My Mom has already secured the title "Grammy" and we're waiting to see what Lori's Mom will choose.

Our Baby's Birthday is tentatively set for 6/1/2008! On Sunday 11/18 Lori will be through her first trimester. She's been doing great, no strange cravings for pickles and ice cream, yet.

We've been busy getting everything in order. The nursery is going to be the bedroom closest to ours because apparently Lori is going to have to get up a lot in the middle of the night to take care of the baby. Kidding, I'm sure we'll take turns, or flip a quarter to see who has to rock the baby back to sleep.

These are very exciting times indeed and just this week we found out that our close friends Walker and Candace are also having a baby, and their due date is 6/7.
